Friday evening at the Indian Ocean Hotel showed us an assortment of pure musical talent, celebrating the latest EP of Indie-Rock outfit Mt Cleverest. The evening was a change to the music I normally listen to, however it was warmly welcomed as I thoroughly enjoyed the sets of Myriad Sun, Tether and Otiuh, adding them straight onto my Spotify playlists.
The first group to perform was Myriad Sun, who certainly weren’t lying when they said they were about to take us to a place we had never been before. Their energy on stage was electrifying and contagious, making us want to dance. Their interesting and unusual appearance wearing hazardous waste suits grasped the attention of every individual in the crowd and it soon was made obvious that this was in relation to their new song.
The boys captivated the audience throughout their entire set and certainly made sober me want to get up and jump around to the unique and wonderful sounds created.

Tether was the next band to bless our ears with their own special music and we were certainly not disappointed. The group made of four talented individuals provided us with wonderful and easy to enjoy music. (Lead singer) Codie’s vocals were accompanied perfectly by guitarist and backup singer Molly. Caitlin on drums and Amy on bass were able to charm the audience with their raw talent and captivating performance. The crowd was quick to request a longer set once they saw it coming to an end.

Otiuh came out on stage next, front men Cesare and Jahmeill on mics, with support from Will Johnson on guitar, Kyuss on bass and Alan on congas who shook the stage up with their incredibly distinctive vibe. They kicked off their set with the band having a jam, once the boys on the mics started to belt their songs everyone in crowd was quick to jump up and dance. As it has been said many times before, their unique style comprising of rap, hip-hop and soul raised the bar even higher. Together the group have produced some really groovy tunes that would happily be added to my Spotify playlist, quickly becoming some of my most listened to tunes.

The main and final act of the night was what we had all been waiting for, Mt Cleverest. With a jaw dropping performance to kick off the release of their new EP 'Free'. Containing most recent singles and fan favourites 'Linger' and 'Forever'. They didn’t hold back getting into their gig, showing us what they’re all made of. This band is a ball to see live and saying they captivated the crowd is an understatement.

This well known up and coming Perth band is comprised of 5 very talented musicians. Christian as the lead singer, who normally plays guitar but embraced his energy on the stage without it, creating a deeper connection with the audience and the rest of the band. Max on lead with his smooth and dreamy yet gritty riffs, licks and solos. Ben on rhythm and Andy on bass who were absolutely shredding it together creating the bands foundation. Gab completes the band with his driving, flawless class act on the drums.

You can definitely see why they have been moving at such as fast pace in the Perth scene as they perform with so much energy and make their performances so enjoyable and captivating. It is clear to see why they have such a dedicated fan base and we are excited to see where this local band will go in the near future. Looking forward to following their journey online and with many more live performances.
