Perth’s own enigmatic mistress of Neo-soul Your Girl Pho brings another winner to the table with her latest offering ‘Surrender’, her first release since signing with Melbourne tastemaker label Daily Nightly. ‘Surrender’ is a switch-up from Your Girl Pho’s signature electro-pop energy, bringing her softer side to the forefront as she strips down her sound to a lo-fi, neo-soul vibe with an infusion of 90’s hip-hop.
“This is an ode for the people who let love go and who won’t surrender to another. I’m singing to a person who has had their walls up, and holds a strong front – having a past of not letting anyone in,” says Phoebe on the track.

Pho doesn’t let the laid back vibe of the track stop her from bringing her signature sass and attitude to her lyricism. Beginning a verse with ‘so… umm’, a common phrase she uses in her writing to let the listener know she’s about to drop some truths on them.

Released alongside the single was an accompanying music video directed by Dylan Guy. The video follows Pho cruising around Perth at night in the back of a convertible and really embodies the vibe of the track, using striking lighting and locations to capture the emotions present in the music.

‘Surrender’ is Your Girl Pho’s first release of 2020, following up on a huge 2019, which saw her win a West Australian Music Award for ‘Best Electronic Live Act’ and also included her acclaimed releases ‘Five-Thirty PM’ and ‘Don’t Wanna’ which reached #1 in the AMRAP metro download charts nationally. With her genre bending releases and dynamic commanding performances, it's no surprise that she was snapped up by Untitled Group’s tastemaker label Daily Nightly in June of 2020.

Keep an eye out for Your Girl Pho as she has more music and more shows coming in the tail end of this year. Check out the music video for ‘Surrender’ below or listen to the track on any major streaming platform.
