A band with an innate knack for hooks, Young Robin craft a beautiful sound that is somewhere between blissful indie and dance floor anthems. Launching their new single at the anticipated sold out Jack Rabbit Slims, this is definitely a show worth attending.
Upon listening to the latest Young Robin single, it is instantly apparent why it gained the working title of ‘Tropical Punch’. With its calypso rhythm, breezy vocals and a guitar line that could happily moonlight as steel drums, the song is blissfully warm and summery. Following on from the band's gorgeous ‘Spaces’ single, which cemented them as songwriters, ‘Tropical Punch’ is irresistibly cheerful... the kind of song that gives you chills in the most awesome, positive way possible.

"We had no idea what tropical punch would be when we first started working on it! It was something that kind of came to us while we were having a bit of fun during one of our practice sessions. We come up with songs in many different ways but tropical punch basically started out with a riff. We then started adding some bass and drums to it and we really started to like what the song was sounding like! It was happy, upbeat and it got all of us dancing around while playing it hahah! We knew then it was something we had to share with our fans! Its also probably one of the quickest songs we have ever written."

Young Robin have earned their place in the Perth music scene's upper echelon of live acts. Aside from their deft songwriting, which is apparent in all of their recorded work, Young Robin bring an electrifying presence to the stage that connects deeply with audiences. Effervescent and charismatic, the band's natural chemistry together is unmissable in concert, where the lineup truly come into their own.

Not surprisingly, Young Robin's youthful energy has made a strong impact on the too-often-overlooked all-ages scene. Backed by some healthy radio play, Young Robin have performed at high profile events such as 2019's Collision Festival and Joondalup Festival, as well as being invited to perform the prestigious WAM Weekender (WA's annual weekend-long music party) three years in a row.

When it comes to musical goals for the band, what is one wild dream and one goal you've reached that used to be wild to imagine?
"Well it would have to be playing shows in front of large crowds and have them sing a long to your songs! That is definitely a euphoric feeling! The dream would be, having the crowd sing your songs along with you! A goal was to sell out a show! And we have managed to do that during one of previous launches! It's a goal we hope to continue!"

Radiating positivity, ‘Tropical Punch’ focuses on helping someone find the light at the end of the tunnel – even when it is nowhere to be seen. This uplifting vibe is not without precedence in Young Robin world... their two EPs Tether (2016) and Transitions (2018) made an immediate impact, spawning successful singles like ‘U’, which garnered an impressive 210,000 Spotify plays, and ‘Spaces’, which found the perfect home on Triple J Unearthed.

Now working their way towards a new EP, Young Robin are excitedly arming up and readying themselves for everything to come. In the wake of ‘Tropical Punch’ the band will resume their heavy gigging schedule. With both optimism and enthusiasm in their sails, the band seem destined for big things as they head out towards a limitless horizon. To that adventurous end, there is no better song than ‘Tropical Punch’ to get the journey started.

If you could describe your musical genre in an ice cream flavour, which flavour would Young Robin be?

"Hmm interesting question, it would definitely have to be chocolate fudge brownie by Ben and Jerry's! How can anyone say no to that ahaha!"

We sure as heck can't say no to a serving of this talented group. Catch them TONIGHT at Jack Rabbit Slims with some incredible supports and help them celebrate their latest release.
"Very fun and buoyant track here! It's like old school Jungle Giants" - Triple J
