Perth-based pop icon Skyuka has done it again with her latest release, 'Michael Cera.' With its blend of indie rock, 90s fuzz guitars, and Skyuka's signature humour, this track is sure to have fans singing along in no time.
'Michael Cera' is a catchy and upbeat pop tune with introspective and witty lyrics. It tells a story that many can relate to, the frustration that comes with falling for someone who you just can't seem to escape from. Skyuka's lightheartedness and sass shine through in the delivery of the song, making it all the more enjoyable to listen to.
Instrumentally, the track is a refreshing blend of indie-rock and pop, with an energetic and upbeat tempo that will get your toes tapping. The track features catchy guitar riffs with a touch of 90s fuzz, giving it a nostalgic feel, while the drums and bass provide a groovy, moving foundation for the melody to build on. This instrumentation complements the vocals perfectly, creating a dynamic and cohesive sound. A fun and catchy track that will leave you wanting more.
“When I wrote 'Michael Cera' I was listening to a lot of Vampire Weekend and just really enjoying the playfulness of their earlier albums which really influenced the writing process of this song. It felt refreshing to write something fun that people could clap and sing along to and have a laugh at, but still had a lot of heart. I was basically telling myself I didn’t want to see this person anymore because of their addictive tendencies...but at the same time I felt like a huge hypocrite as I was clearly addicted to them.” - Skyuka
In addition to the release of the single, Skyuka has treated fans to a quirky and clever music video for 'Michael Cera', directed by Skyuka herself and videographed by Dylan Guy. The video features nostalgic visuals and an engaging, entertaining storyline that perfectly complements the song.
“Being a Michael Cera fan I knew I could have a lot of fun with this video. I found this Michael Cera mask online and I think that’s when I realised I was on to something. I wanted the video to be very narrative driven and playful like the song.” - Skyuka
Skyuka goes on to describe the passionate story board planning process for the video, including her meticulous attention to detail to transfer the themes from the tracks production process to the visual of the video.
Skyuka's unique sound and creativity has earned her support from community radio stations such as RTR FM, Radio Fremantle, Edge Radio, and 97.9 FM. With 'Michael Cera', she continues to make her mark on the global pop scene. Fans can look forward to her upcoming EP release later this year.
