Nostalgia, love and heartfelt embrace of emotion is pretty much all I can say about this debut effort by Jimmy Mac, the talented man behind Servo Flowers. He has delivered his debut single ‘King of the Suburbs (For the Night)’ and it’s honestly nothing short of amazing. We are calling it, this is going to make it big time!
This sound is world class, it’s inspiring to see such a high production coming out of a secluded and part dilapidated house in fremantle. Servo Flowers is the solo project of Perth R&B vocalist, producer and multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Mac.

“Music to listen to while the world burns - dance through the depression” is his take on it.

After graduating from WAAPA in 2017 Jimmy quickly built a reputation working behind the scenes with local Hip Hop artists like 'Drapht' and 'Coin Banks'. 'King of the Suburbs (For the Night)' sees the debut of his own distinct voice. Ambient guitar and field recordings drenched in reverb are accompanied by his signature vocal delivery and quick wit, all self-recorded.

To my ears, Jimmy’s sonic character revealed inside this jem is a blend of Lana Del Ray and Youth Groups cover of Alphaville's ‘Forever Young’, but that’s up to you to decide really. His introverted vibe is warming and reassuring, leaving you just needing more.

The music video was directed and edited by Servo Flowers and shot by Marcus Wong over the course of two months. Part performance-art, part public-humiliation, Servo Flowers enters Perth city to interact with his audience and is surprised to find a warmer welcome than expected as passers-by spend fifty-cents to receive an upside-down ‘Spidey-kiss’. The final scene for the video was shot during the encore of the first ever Servo Flowers gig on August 31 and is the realisation of Servo Flowers as an artist, welcomed by his community and applauded by his peers as he does what feels right inside.

All of the team here at Toasties have great expectations for this bag of talent and believe he’s going to push this all the way, with such a fantastic debut we can’t wait to see more from Servo Flowers.
