Recently being nominated for WAM Song Of The Year with his debut single ’Grow’, Sam McGovern, is making a comeback with new single ‘Let Me Know’.
The 21 year old singer songwriter and guitarist hails from Perth, the city which allowed him to stay grounded in his passion for music and the ocean. Even from a young age, McGovern clearly communicated these passions to those around him by either having a surfboard or a guitar under his arm. As time has gone on, music has taken on a pivotal role in his life and uses “songwriting as a way of expressing feelings that come unspoken in […] life.”
After graduating with a diploma from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), the musician has been building up to his new single since the success of his debut single, ‘Grow’, which has also been nominated of WAM’s Song Of The Year Award (with results still to be announced on June 30 this year). McGovern says that being nominated under the Act Belong Commit category means a lot to him because it reflects on the message of positive mental health. That being said, it speaks a lot on the conception of his debut single which was created just after lockdown last year. He says, “It was a period of time that really changed our day to day lives. I wasn’t feeling my normal happy self.. […] ‘Grow’, unlike other songs, didn’t come to me in just a day of writing, it almost developed as my journey progressed, and came naturally as I came to terms with the process of feeling myself again. […] The line of ‘maybe on my way back home, I’ll see things a little differently’ describes seeing the road you travelled from a different angle, accepting all the doubt and negative feelings you once had but knowing you stayed true to yourself. Sometimes all it takes is seeing things from a different perspective.” Since then, he has been playing shows all around Perth, including supporting artists like Jordy Maxwell and other well known acts. As well as this, McGovern’s music has also been featured on radio stations (such as ABC Radio, RTR FM and Boom Radio) and reached over 60 countries worldwide with over 10,000 streams on streaming platforms. ‘Let Me Know’ is Sam McGovern’s new single about “the feelings you are put through nearing a breakup”. To celebrate this new release, the guitarist was holding a launch release party on July 1st and will be rescheduled after the current lockdown! Supported by George Dacheff and Sam Coombes, the event will be at the Three Stories Surf Shop in Fremantle and won’t be something you’ll want to miss.
