Stacey Ann is bringing a fully fleshed out sound on her second release 'Body', with a full 4-piece soulful ensemble accompanying her. On top of Stacey’s compelling vocals and honey-like harmonies will now be the guitar stylings of Ashton Weaver, the piano musings of Cecilia Brandolini and the solid rhythmic foundation of Joel Dalton on drums and Austen Bowker on bass.
The songwriting process for this track was a cathartic and healing one for Stacey, here’s what she has to say about her new song;
“This song rushed out of me during a very traumatic period of my life and I wrote it seeking some form of closure. I found myself revisiting past experiences of sexual and indecent assault and how they had affected my self-confidence and the way I looked at relationships. The words flowed onto the paper “Was any of it love? I’m not just a body”. I wanted to write this song from the point of view that I was talking to the boys who had hurt me as if they were right there and they were listening to what I had to say. This song was my process of healing and regaining ownership over my body after others had tried to claim it - regaining my womanhood and a newfound sense of self. I want people who listen to this to feel empowered, and for the listeners who have or are dealing with trauma to find comfort in this song and try to discover their own process of healing” Recorded with Tristan of Sumo Studios and mixed and mastered by Lee Buddle of Crank Recording, 'Body' is sure to captivate and empower listeners. Already garnering attention from the industry, Stacey was recently showcased for Hidden Treasures Fremantle 2020 and is receiving lots of praise from local legends, such as Helen Shanahan who had this to say about the new single; “Stacey Ann's new single 'Body' cuts to the core with it's powerful message, and her hard-hitting chorus ‘was any of it love?’ leaves a lasting impression. Timely lyrics such as ‘I'm not just a body...I'm not yours to keep’ will resonate with many. Stacey Ann is full of self-assurance and confidence. The impressive production varied with bold lyrics is the perfect showcase for her unique and compelling vocals. Couldn't love it more!" Stacey Ann will be launching her full project at Lyrics Underground on November 14th, with support from local acts King Ibis, Green Pools, and Finn Pearson along with some market stalls.
