Continuing on from their success with their first single, ‘Echoes’, Late 90’s are back to bring Perth their newest single, 'Friends'. The band members came together to form Late 90’s after playing with other bands while growing up, but ultimately it was the almost two decades of friendship that set the basis of their bond as a band.
eWhile most of us were looking at COVID-19 as a spanner thrown in the works, Elliot Lee (drums), Steve Loreck (vocals and rhythm guitar) and twins Zaac Morgan (lead guitar) and Brody Morgan (bass) used this time to explore and develop their sound. The members draw a lot of inspiration from bands such as Sly Withers, Violent Soho Modern Baseball and Slowly Slowly.
Late 90’s saw their first big success supporting Pot Plant House Party at the Indian Ocean Hotel (after COVID) to a sold out bar and experienced their crowd appeal first hand. Following this event, the band has been on the up and are not planning to slow their momentum - selling out their first headline show at Amplifier Bar launching their debut single 'Echoes'. This was appreciated when Triple J spun their record not short after the single’s release! Dave Rudy Howe of Triple J described the track as “[coming] to life in a blaze of chunky punk glory.”
Thanks to the help of producer Matthew Templeman, their new single, ‘Friends’, serves to highlight their punchy choruses, big chords and unique vocal delivery. Loreck describes this song as “[the depiction of] the wave of emotions that comes after a breakup, being unsure with oneself and self medicating.” Despite being their sophomore release, ‘Friends’ was one of the first songs that Late 90’s ever wrote together as a band and even though it has changed over time, they are super keen to meet their audience with a live performance of it! Lead guitar Morgan emphasises, "It’s always super fun to play live so we’re excited to have it out in the world and hope everyone feels the same energy we do when we play it on stage.”
‘Friends’ came out on April 9 and is set to become another success for Late 90’s. Check out the new track out on all streaming platforms now!
