Since the explosive success of single ‘When I Was A Young Boy’ earlier this year, Boox Kid is back with new single ‘G.F.Y. (Go F*ck Yourself)’.
Hailing from Fremantle, the singer-songwriter, producer and dad, Jarred Wall, has amassed a hugely successful career despite only having started releasing music in 2018. Early singles such as ‘Hold My Hand’, ‘It’s Just A Dream, Wake Up’, ‘Sentimental Dreams’ and ‘1984’ received constant rotation status on radio stations such as 4ZZZ, FBi Radio, RTR FM and Triple J Unearthed - not to mention being curated by Spotify to be featured on playlists ‘Low Key Weekend’ and ‘Weekend and Friends’.
Latest single ‘When I Was A Young Boy’ really made waves for Boox Kid; he was again featured on several radio stations and featured on Spotify playlists such as ‘Deadly Beats’ and ‘New Music Friday AU&NZ’. This also marked the artists’ debut film clip to match the track, debuted by Buzz-Music LA back in March. All eyes are on this proud Noongar musician of the Wardandi Bibbulmun nation, as they should be - and this was further demonstrated by his feature in PILERATS for NAIDOC week last year alongside being included in BIGSOUND 50 (the music industry’s top 50 emerging Australian artists). With no sign of stopping anytime soon, the artist has been putting feelers out to expand his creative expression, taking to the theatrical stage in October with a primary role in WA Opera’s ‘Koolbardi Wer Wardong’. Now out with a new single written and produced by himself, Boox Kid’s new track ‘G.F.Y.’ is coined as “electro pop heaven”, featuring a laidback beat juxtaposed against strongly emotive lyrics. The song features Perth powerhouse, Alter Boy, who only adds to the electro pop feel with their contrastive flow of melody and sweet voice. Boox Kid describes the track; “‘G.F.Y.’ is [a story] about unity (particularly for marginalised groups), coming together and also saying a bit of an F-you to 'the man' and wider society. It's a very fitting track for those in COVID bubbles too.” To celebrate the release of the track, there will be a release party! Held at The Bird on 21 August, you will be able to hear your favourite Boox Kid tracks as well as witnessing some pretty amazing performances from supporting acts Anesu, Priscilla and Yikes (DJ Set).
