Off the back of her debut EP 'Plan for an Independent Future’, Lo returns with her stunning and crippling new single, ‘Away’. After the success of her first release ‘Floating’ and subsequent single ‘Fiction’, it seemed hard to imagine in which direction Lo would step next, or if it were even possible to meet such high expectations, yet she supersedes them all.
‘Plan for an Independent Future’ has gained more than half a million streams on Spotify and has fans from all parts of the world reaching out to express how deeply Lo and her lyricism connected with them. Receiving airplay on Triple J and BBC’s Radio 1, ‘Floating’ gave us a look into Lo’s constant introspection, a voice that soothes and seduces over subtle instrumentation, a hint of what we get from latest single ‘Away’.
“It’s got romantic warmth dripping from it. I’m lost in the haze and hoping to never come out” - Triple J
Although Lo is the new solo project of Lauren O’Hara she has been a big part of the Perth scene for the last few years, most notably she is the guitarist & vocalist of the influential band FLOSSY. After fronting FLOSSY for a few years Lo had their first release, a more vulnerable and personal project to share with the world.
“It was one of those moments where the song wrote itself. I thought why don’t I just write as honestly as possible, about how I’m feeling in this moment. And that moment was the aftermath of taking some space from my girlfriend.” - Lo
The lyrics and melody for ‘Away’ were written within an hour, giving us a stripped back and bare look at the bones of who Lo is, and the music she creates. Her minimalist style of instrumentation and her vulnerable and emotional lyrics makes ‘Away’ feel so personal.
Listening below, you’ll feel as though you're being flooded in Lo’s feelings of sadness and feel her desperation as if it was your own.
