West Australian alt-indie rock artist LANES has released his brand new single 'Green'. Inspired by artist’s like the Arctic Monkeys and Tame Impala, LANES creates music that embodies his internal self and how he views the world that surrounds him.
'Green' delves into the challenges and inner turmoil that arise when we face inescapable transformations and grow over time. His song explores unhealthy relationships or routines that are destructive, emphasising the importance of discovering our inner resilience so that we can break free, and begin the next chapter of life.
The creative process for 'Green' began with experimentation with synthesisers, developing a chord progression and building up layers. The recording process began in mid-2022 at the private studio of his great friend and producer/engineer, Marcus Davidson, with whom he shares a great trust in each other's intuition when it comes to music.
With beautiful lyrics underlying the need for change and the struggle to accomplish it, 'Green' is an embodiment of the common human struggle and resonates with the listener. His lyrics reminded me of the Black Eyed Peas, 'Meet Me Halfway', which is about compromising in your relationships to make sure both parties are happy. LANES lyrics emerge from his subconscious, imbuing his songs with various scenarios and meanings, which makes for an extremely personal viewing by the listeners as they can read between the lines of his melody and relate it to their own lives.
The synth elements of the song are very reminiscent of Tame Impala’s instrumentation and it is easy to see where LANES inspiration comes from. His ethereal synths bring me to the 80’s and feels like it belongs in a TV show like 'Stranger Things', where the the song is at the forefront and the characters are dancings feeling the emotional ties of their relationships. LANES lively drums add to this development of danceability to the song which truly brings the whole song together.
Having released his first singles in 2021 and his EP debut 'Bloom' in 2022, LANES was quickly signed with Rexius Records later that year and continues to create these evolving pieces. 'Green' gives off an otherworldly feel and makes me feel like I’m in another universe, floating through the atmosphere on a journey. I genuinely can’t wait to see what he comes up with next.
