Local indie/psych rock pioneers Hakea are back with another release, with their second single ‘Something Subtle’. Formed in 2019 from a cross-perth friendship with a pair of mates from Fremantle and Duncraig. Hakea have a high-energy mixture of indie and psychedelic rock with introspective lyrics and classic psychedelic effect-heavy guitars. Inspired by an acid trip, ‘Something Subtle’ takes a listener through the process of losing yourself in the trip, and the slow reassembly of yourself over the following days. Fueled by their ever growing HECS debt, the boys write, record and mix their own music from a parent’s garage in Duncraig. The single will be available on all streaming platforms tomorrow on Friday the 31st of July. You can come celebrate the launch of their new single with the Hakea boys as they put on a show at the Indian Ocean Hotel on the same night. Gerard Kinsella
