Skyuka is the enigmatic, electrifying stage persona of Perth born and bred producer Vanessa Raspa. Blending elements from electronic pop, trip hop, trap and synths Skyuka intertwines these with soulful and breathy vocals to create a vibe that's all her own. Her most recent release is her track 'I Wish I Didn’t Know Your Address' and its accompanying music video (her first video release!).
Written post break up, 'I Wish I Didn’t Know Your Address' is a song that encapsulates the myriad of emotions that we feel throughout the experience of grieving. “There are so many stages of grief and it’s so unpredictable and I wanted this to be reflected in the track. It is also a low key dig at people who tell you that you can’t do certain things because they like to put you in a box. I never want to be that kind of artist, I want to always remain true to how I feel the most authentic expression of my narrative is...whether that be spoken word, rapping or singing.” - Says Vanessa of her latest release.
Known for her captivating stage presence and her nakedly honest lyrics, Skyuka has blended in elements of hip-hop, jazz and soul to create a sassy pop tune. The video filmed by YS Productions is a perfect match to the tone of her song, with a lot of clever theatrical and occasionally comical elements, using some striking imagery.
Skyuka’s next show is on the 4th of December at the SONAR Room in Fremantle, alongside Queency and Charlie-Moon Meader. Check out the music video for 'I Wish I Didn’t Know Your Address' below.
