Perth born Indie-Folk singer-songwriter Duncan Saige is back home from a short stint living in the UK with his latest offering, 'Squirrel'. Recently premiered on Triple J’s ‘Roots N All’, the track is a rich and calming moment of quiet in an increasingly tense modern world.
“Squirrels in the UK inspired the single. Amongst all the hustle and bustle, particularly in London, I found a calming when I saw them. Funny and cute little buggers. I wanted to write a minimalist light, happy song.“ - Duncan says of the tune.
The song starts with just the sparse sounds of birds, but builds up with verdant guitars and a gentle driving drum beat to create a peaceful and calming atmosphere. Saige weaves his vocals throughout to great effect, adding lots of rich texture to the music with a variety of little layers. Duncan’s live shows showcase his sense of humour, with a live rendition of the bunnings theme tune and some immature jokes sprinkled in with the soaring falsetto vocals and catchy melodies for a memorable set. Having supported some Australian up and comers like Lime Cordiale and Alex The Astronaut, as well as playing festival spots at Falls Festival 2018 and Nannup Music Festival, Duncan is building up some momentum as an act to make sure you see. Catch the end of Duncan’s Squirrel tour supporting Michael Dunstan at The Prince of Wales Hotel down in Bunbury on November 6th or check out 'Squirrel' below (or on any major streaming platform).
