Perth’s indie rock scene has felt the impact of The Spunloves over the past few years, and they’re back with another sun-drenched alt-rock tune. Taken from their upcoming second full length album ‘Too Deep For the Desert’ the track includes dreamy guitars that build up a lovely atmospheric effect, bringing in elements of indie, garage and pop.
‘London’ begins with a driving beat and an infectious riff, setting the listener up perfectly for the catchy vocal melodies once they come in. The lyrics are puzzling yet relatable in a way that sticks in your mind with lines like “everybody needs to fight for something // everybody needs to lose”. The track closes with a building swirl of interlocking dreamy guitars, the signature sound of The Spunloves that has seen them perform alongside other bands such as Rolling Blackouts, Coastal Fever, Ocean Alley, The Murlocs and Amyl & The Sniffers.
Recorded with the talented Andy Lawson at Debaser Studios, the second album from these guys sees them step away from their previous DIY methodology and the increase in production shows the worth of this choice. There’s a lot to look forward to coming up from The Spunloves, with more music releases on the horizon. Come check out The Spunloves this Saturday August 8th as they launch their new single at one of Perth’s newest venues Barbes. Gerard Kinsella
